DUP representatives Alex Easton MLA has commented on the announcement of Bombardier’s intention to sell its aircraft structures operation which includes their Belfast plant.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“I have written to the company this morning and that will continue to purse what if anything can be done to secure the future as many of the workforce work in North Down , and any further details become available I will let people know.

Following Bombardier’s partnership with Airbus there has been an upturn in orders for the A220 planes. That synergy with Airbus links to the plant in Morocco which Bombardier have also announced is to be sold.

This is clearly a very significant announcement by the company and will obviously be unsettling for staff. That plant, and the skilled staff working there have been absolutely integral to the A220 programme and the specialised nature of operations there should be attractive to potential buyers. I hope the company will quickly move to confirm that if a purchaser is not found, the site will be protected in any event.

Many workers from Shorts live in North Down and it is only right and fair that we know exactly what’s going to happen and what that means for the work force and their futures”
