Alex Easton MLA has today expressed amazement at the reported price that the former borstal at Lisnevin Millisle, Co Down has reportedly been sold for with a price tag of £1.2 million has now been agreed.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said

“I understand from reports that an agreed sign was placed on the for sale sign on Monday morning, two years after it was closed by the Northern Ireland Prison Service.

The last prison officer trainees started their training at Millisle in December 2015 and the Northern Ireland Prison Service closed the site as a training facility in 2016.

Sealed bids were accepted for the prime seaside property and now a due diligence test will be applied to the successful applicant.

I have to say I am surprised at the price being reported that the site has been sold for. I think someone has got a bargain and I am absolutely flabbergasted that this site has been sold for this reported price. I am deeply shocked and would have believed the site to be worth much more than this. I am also concerned what will happen to the site as I believed it would have made an excellent site for community use, but we will now have to wait to see the plans for the site from the new owners.”
