Alex Easton MLA has called the rape of a 19 year old woman as barbaric at the weekend in the in a car park close to the Coastguard station in the Quay Street area of the town centre.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“This is an appalling incident to hear that this woman has been raped in the centre of Bangor on a late Friday evening. This sort of crime is barbaric and makes me really upset to think that this could happen to a young women right at the heart of Bangor.”

“I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward to the PSNI especially if they saw suspicious activity surrounding a blue four-door car in the area, and will be asking if the towns CCTV has picked up any vital information on these terrible incidents so that the individual concerned can be brought before the courts as a matter of urgency.”

“I believe that we need to look at much tougher sentencing for this type of crime so that we send out a clear message that sexual assault will not be tolerated in our society and that it carries a heavy sentence!”

“My thoughts and prayers go out to the victim.”
