Alex Easton MLA has called on urgent action to be taken by Council to help save the small red squirrel population at Glen Lyon, Holywood.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“It is vital that the Council take urgent action to preserve the red squirrel population at Glen Lyon, Holywood. I see from the Minister of Agriculture, Environment and Rural Affairs answer to a recent NI Assembly Question that there have been eight local squirrel groups set up across Northern Ireland with one being situated at Mount Stewart. It would appear that there is a suggestion that this groups activity’s may have the potential to spread to North Down. I would be very keen for this group to consider coming to Holywood to visit Glen Lyon and maybe make suggestions and advice to the Council on how to best protect this small pocket of red squirrels.”
