Alex Easton MLA has today called on Transport NI to take action to cut hedging and tree growth which is virtually blocking the public footpath along the Ring Road.

Speaking today Alex Easton MLA said:

“Having been approached by the public I have been out to visit various stretches of the public footpath along the Ring Road especially between the Newtownards Roundabout and the Clandeyboye Road. It is pretty clear that the tree growth and bushes that are growing onto the public footpath along this stretch, have not been cut in some time and is leading to serious safety issue for those using this stretch of public footpath, who are having their way virtually blocked due to Transport Northern Ireland failure not to maintain the tree growth or shrubs growth. I have written to TNI on the issue which is fast becoming a health and safety issue, as it is forcing people to have to duck or having to walk on the grass on the way to work or school. This is totally unacceptable and it is now a matter of time before someone gets hurt. TNI need to take action to address this issue as a matter of urgency.”
